Beyond all the differences, there is a space of knowledge, expectations and affects that most human beings share. The Biennial is looking for these points of connection, those common areas that allow us to move forward together towards a greater future.
Close to celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Havana Biennial continues to share those horizons where utopia lives and calls for its fifteenth edition guided by the idea of weaving new networks of communication and collaboration that facilitate us continue to grow, deepen and expand our range of influences, in pursuit of achieving peace and better coexistence between man and nature.
Imbued with the spirit of celebration and faced with the possibility of reunions, we propose to do an analysis of the trajectory of the event, return to and rethink some of the themes that have been transversal to its history and that have evolved over time showing new nuances. What then could be that characterizing element of the Havana Biennial? It is Cuba, its people committed every day to preserving values of solidarity and dignity, with the creativity, both of the artists and those who are not? Highlighting that network of relationships that make the development of the event possible is ours. objective in this edition.
We imagine this Biennial as an emotional network that is committed to coexistence based on respect for differences and the value of other knowledge and forms of existence (and resistance) away from the dominant model. We are interested in creators and projects that work in a collaborative way, beyond the limits of their respective disciplines, and who are capable of developing actions that allow mediation between all strata and facets of society and culture. We will try to strengthen collective work to achieve a common good. Just as has happened on other occasions, but now even more emphatically,
We want the main stage of this biennial not to be the galleries or spaces traditionally dedicated to art. It is our goal that the artists not only live the experience of Cuba, but also that they create together with its inhabitants in the communities and that they are able to develop meditation strategies that allow for greater rapprochement between everyone.
Curating Committee
At the center of our journey is the 15th Havana Biennial with the participation of artists from Africa, Asia, Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America. Our encounters will take place through conversations with contemporary Cuban artists while visiting their studios and exhibits in public spaces. private galleries and studios and art centers in Havana. The Havana Biennial encourages not only traditional artists to show art but also the most exciting and experimental artistic projects in alternative places all around the city.
The goal of the 15th Havana Biennial, “Shared Horizons”, is to provide “a space of knowledge, expectations and affects that most human beings share. Looking for these points of connection, those common areas that allow us to move forward together towards a greater future. The interaction between the public, creators, curators, experts and institutions represents an aspiration for "art to point to new ways of collective reasoning and for art work to provide, through the confrontation of different creative models, more interaction between public, locations and levels of experience”.
The conceptual platform of the Biennial will respond to the present and, at the same time, “sketch possible notions of the future, at least at the level of the poetic or symbolic, aimed at the needs of social transformation in the world today".

_____________
The program was an exceptionally well-integrated one. It combined performances, studio exchanges, Cuban culture and history in perfect balance. Mary Smith
Havana’s location along a magnificent deep-sea bay with a sheltered harbor made the city a prime location for economic development from Spanish colonial times in the early 16th century. Cuba is endowed with a number of such harbors, but Havana’s on the north coast was prized above the others by the early Spanish colonizers. With land on both sides of the harbor, the port was easily defended. The early colonists erected a number of fortifications in the area that withstood most invaders. In colonial times Havana was the first landfall for Spanish fleets coming to the New World, and it became a staging area, first, for the conquest of the Americas by Spanish conquistadores and, later, for the economic and political domination of the hemisphere by Spain. The city early became a cosmopolitan centre with sprawling fortifications, cobblestone plazas, and buildings with ornamental facades and ornate iron balconies. Today’s Havana mixes these structures with a variety of conventional modern buildings.
Located at Hotel Nacional, with the flair of the 30s, it displays a vibrant, extravagant spectacle: an ideal site for some excellent adventure. The Parisien Cabaret offers the "Cubano, Cubano" Great Show, showing the fusion of the American, Hispanic and African cultures, which gave rise to the Cuban culture.
